Step 1: Gather Required Documents Gather documentation attesting to your true identity and name.  Required Documents: The right name appears on the CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card). Any additional official documents, such as a passport Evidence of ownership of tax records, such as previous tax returns or FBR notices containing your account information.
Step 2: Consult a Lawyer

To help with the FBR name correction process, choose a lawyer with competence in legal corrections or tax documentation.
If necessary, the attorney will assist in drafting an application or affidavit and will walk you through the submission process to FBR.

Step 3: Prepare Correction Application
The attorney drafts a request to FBR to have your account’s name corrected.   The contents of the application include: – A formal request to FBR to change the name on your account; – An explanation of the need for the change; – Attachments of the necessary papers (proof of ownership, passport, and CNIC); – The information of your lawyer, if they are submitting on your behalf.

Step 4: Submit Documents to FBR
Send in the identity documents, the correction application, and any other forms that FBR requests.   Depending on the FBR’s protocols, your attorney may submit the documents in person or online. For a seamless process, make sure all necessary paperwork and signatures are submitted.
Step 5: FBR Verification and Review  FBR examines the application, checks the supporting documentation, and handles the request for a name correction.  Verification Process: Depending on FBR workload, the processing time may vary, but usually takes a few working days to a few weeks. FBR may verify the submitted papers with your tax history to validate ownership. FBR then adjusts the account name based on the verified information.

Step 6: Confirmation of Correction
Your account name will be changed once the correction has been processed by FBR.  If the name correction is successful, FBR will let you (or your attorney) know. To make sure the name has been adjusted accurately and corresponds with your formal identification documents, you should log into your account.
